Talking point: Cell C’s new print advert
Carla January 27, 2011 Leave a comment Noteworthy CampaignsSince Cell C announced Trevor Noah as their new ‘CEO’ they have spiced up their advertising campaigns all-round. In their latest marketing stunt, Cell C stepped up their game with a new print ad in the February editions of Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, House and Leisure and O Magazine. If you haven’t seen the ad yet, take a look at the video below.
The general public seems to be divided as to whether the ad is a master piece or just plain irritating. A number of readers tweeted that they got quite a fright when they opened the magazine and suddenly Trevor Noah started speaking. View some tweets here and here.
Whether consumers find Cell C’s campaign annoying or not, the proof is in the pudding. TechCentral reported that ‘Cell C has been the biggest net beneficiary of mobile number portability’ since number portability was introduced in November 2006. Since then nearly 240 000 subscribers switched to Cell C, 200 000 switched to Vodacom and 130 000 switched to MTN.
The talking ad definitely caused a buzz and in our opinion it is a great example of how to innovate through traditional media. Take a look at the ‘Cell C DJs’ video below.
